About PEP
Every year, prosecutorial misconduct contributes to wrongful convictions, shattered families, and a justice system that fails the people it’s meant to protect. Protect Ethical Prosecutors (PEP) exists to change that. We work at the intersection of policy reform, public education, and coalition-building to hold prosecutors accountable — and to build a criminal legal system worthy of public trust.
Now, we’re looking for a strategic marketing leader to help us take that message to the world.
Why this role exists
PEP is in a high-growth phase with bold campaign plans to deter prosecutorial misconduct, prevent wrongful convictions, and protect crime victims and survivors.
The Marketing Director will own brand messaging, channel planning, owned media, growth strategy (email/web conversion), and paid strategy. This role will supervise and direct a Content Producer who executes production and publishing (“hits send”), and manage the external website redesign firm and ensure continuity through launch.
PEP works with a PR agency, a website development agency, and has been hard at work building polished assets; this role adds national leadership and systems to scale our brand and growth.
What success looks like (90 days)
- 1–2-year comms/growth roadmap with priorities and KPIs
- Translate PEP’s mission into an actionable Brand strategy with specific core messaging to improve
- consistency and persuasion
- Weekly operating rhythm; directs the PR agency who is responsible for the day-to-day execution of editorial and thought leadership.
- Measurable growth in audience, email list, and conversions (donations/partner actions/inbound)
- Support the founder with proactive marketing planning and advice, shared via weekly updates.
Core responsibilitiesStrategy + messaging
- Build a multi-phase comms roadmap (testing → credibility → growth → conversion → readiness) and translate it into quarterly and weekly plans.
- Maintain message discipline: pillars, proof points, FAQs, tone, and “say/avoid.”
- Protect accuracy and trust on sensitive legal/justice topics.
Content leadership (owned + PR integration)
- Own the editorial calendar across channels (LinkedIn + Instagram primary).
- Supervise the Content Producer to package, schedule, and post content; you set strategy, creative
- direction, and QA.
- Provide strategic direction to the PR agency partner to help direct their thought leadership and placement efforts.
- Turn key moments into “content waves” (before/during/after) and align with earned media partners.
Founder prep + partner cadence
- Produce a weekly founder prep packet (prompts/scripts, story arcs, CTAs) and provide light media coaching.
- Lead the weekly cross-team comms meeting and coordinate external partners (earned media, design/ video, web).
Email + website (WordPress + Constant Contact)
- Own email strategy and list growth; run (or direct) the email program and cadence.
- Oversee website rebuild: manage the external web firm to align messaging, structure, and conversion
- pathways; maintain minor updates until launch.
- Post-launch, supervise ongoing website content updates (with the Content Producer) and keep conversion pages current.
Paid media + performance (not immediate need)
- Own paid strategy and testing priorities; provide creative direction and ad-ready variants.
- Coordinate with a media buyer/agency as needed for execution, tracking, and optimization.
- Paid media scope will be set based on candidate capability—indicate whether you can own day-to- day execution or prefer to partner with a buyer/agency.
Measurement + learning loop
- Define KPIs that matter (reach quality, watch time, shares/saves, list growth, landing-page conversion, donor actions).
- Run structured tests of hooks/frames/CTAs; share weekly insights and deliver a monthly KPI memo with decisions.
Qualifications
- 7+ years in comms/growth/digital strategy/campaign communications (advocacy/public affairs preferred)
- Proven ability to build multi-quarter plans and execute weekly shipping
- Excellent communication skills and judgment, collaborative, organized, and creative
- Paid media strategy/testing fluency (execution optional per scope)
- Tools: WordPress, Constant Contact, Hootsuite, GA4, Canva, Airtable
- Comfortable using AI tools in the marketing and growth industry, organization, time efficiency, mapping, etc.

- Apply through PEP's Linkedin job post, email recruiting@protectethicalprosecutors.org with your resume, cover letter identifying interest in working with PEP, and any portfolio/case study links.
