The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a federally chartered, nonpartisan institution that was created by the US Congress to serve as America’s national memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and an educational institution dedicated to the history and lessons of the Holocaust. The Museum seeks to educate Americans from all 50 states and all walks of life as well as international audiences. The Museum has three areas of expertise: Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust scholarship and education, and genocide prevention.

Description

The Museum is seeking a Contractor to serve as a Social Media Content Creator (“Contractor”) working with the Social Media Manager in the Marketing Communications Office [MARCOM]. MARCOM is the central unit responsible for stewarding the Museum’s brand and promoting its mission across platforms. MARCOM leads the development of content that is historically grounded, insight-driven, and designed to engage diverse audiences across digital channels (TikTok, Meta, YouTube, X).

This contractor role focuses on developing social-first content that engages teenage audiences, supporting the Museum’s goal of making Holocaust history accessible and relevant to young people.

Working closely with internal partners and subject matter experts, the Contractor produces accurate, platform-specific content that aligns with the Museum’s youth strategy and historical standards. This work focuses on building awareness of Holocaust history, including the dangers of antisemitism, hatred, and its distortion or denial.

Location of Work: This work can be accomplished remotely from the Contractor’s own work location.

Tasks and Deliverables

  • In coordination with the Social Media Manager, Contractor’s tasks include the following:
  • Develops social-first content that supports the Museum’s engagement strategy and resonates with teenage audiences.
  • Utilizing established framework and story boarding process
  • Uses Museum resources, such as oral testimony, collections, and artifacts, to identify and recommend content opportunities.
  • Confirms with internal and external subject matter experts that content is historically accurate and platform-appropriate.
  • Ensures strict approval processes and procedures are followed, timelines for deliverables are aligned, and deliverables are timely delivered by confirming with project managers and cross-functional teams.
  • Schedules content and manages personal content calendar and assignments.
  • Provides expert consultation and strategic input on teenage focused content opportunities.
  • Interprets performance data and informs content strategy in collaboration with analysts and team members.
  • For security purposes, the Museum will provide equipment for this role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience creating social media content and campaigns in a fast paced and mission driven organization, such as an agency or non-profit.
  • Demonstrated ability to write, edit, and develop engaging social-first content for a teenage audience.
  • Strong conceptual and editorial judgment; able to translate complex topics into accessible, accurate, and engaging content.
  • Skilled in applying rigorous research and fact-checking standards to ensure social content is accurate and engaging.
  • Experience using performance metrics to inform content decisions and iterate based on engagement benchmarks.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments on deadline, and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Proficient in balancing and integrating feedback from multiple experts through collaborative conversations and rounds of review.
  • Comfortable working independently while incorporating feedback from cross-functional stakeholders, including leadership, historians, and creative teams.
  • Brings expertise in social-first storytelling, informed by platform-native behaviors and audience engagement patterns across platforms.
  • Writing samples are required to be considered for the role.
  • A content-focused writing and editing exercise will be administered during the interview process.
  • 3 professional references are required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Non-profit, agency, museum, or media background
  • Experience with tools such as Miro, Airtable, Sprout Social, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Canva, Google Suite
  • Knowledge of and interest in Holocaust history, including historical context, the causes and events leading to it, general chronology, specific events, and both historical and contemporary significance

Period of Performance: Date of Mutual Acceptance and will continue for one calendar year.

The Contractor shall complete this work on a mutually agreed upon performance schedule for up to a one-year period.

Remuneration

Contractor shall bill the Museum, not to exceed 40 hours per week for the satisfactory completion of all deliverables described. The Contractor shall accompany each invoice with a written report citing progress made toward completion of future deliverables (as applicable).
