About The Company

Kindred is a members-only home swapping platform that unlocks the ability to live a travel-rich lifestyle through the power of community. By exchanging primary residences with trusted peers, renters and owners alike can match with Kindred spirits and explore new destinations without breaking the bank. Since launching in 2022, Kindred has revolutionized the "third option" of travel accommodation, positioning itself as a more affordable, responsible, and connected alternative to traditional short-term rentals and hotels. The platform has rapidly grown into a global community of over 300,000 members across more than 150 cities worldwide. Backed by over $150 million in capital from prominent Silicon Valley investors such as Index Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, and NEA, Kindred is led by proven entrepreneurs from the early team at Opendoor, with a track record of building scalable, high-impact products. The company is committed to making travel more meaningful and accessible, fostering a sense of trust, community, and shared experience among its members.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Copywriter to define and uphold Kindred’s brand voice across all touchpoints. As the first in-house copywriting hire, you will consolidate and elevate the company’s narrative, ensuring consistency and authenticity in every piece of communication. Your primary responsibility will be to craft compelling, on-brand copy for various channels including paid advertising, social media, in-product messaging, email campaigns, and more. You will work closely with cross-functional teams such as Performance Marketing, Lifecycle Marketing, Product, Creative, and external agency partners to ensure that all messaging aligns with Kindred’s core values and strategic objectives.

This role requires a strategic thinker and a hands-on executor who can translate complex concepts into clear, engaging language. You will develop and maintain the brand voice guidelines, review and approve copy, and serve as the go-to expert on what sounds on-brand. Your efforts will help shape how Kindred communicates its story, builds trust with members, and differentiates itself in the travel and sharing economy space. The ideal candidate will be proactive, collaborative, and passionate about travel, community, and innovative ways of living and exploring the world.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional copywriting experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating both strategic thinking and sharp execution
  • Proven experience managing brand voice and messaging for consumer brands, including developing and implementing voice and tone guidelines
  • Experience working with freelance writers or agency partners, with a clear approach to briefing, reviewing, and optimizing external output
  • Exceptional collaboration skills across Product, Growth, and Creative teams
  • Ability to translate strategic concepts into compelling, accessible language
  • Self-directed, resourceful, and proactive in managing multiple projects independently
  • Genuine interest in travel, trust, community, and the sharing economy
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Write and review copy for all company channels, ensuring consistency and adherence to brand voice
  • Establish and evolve Kindred’s voice and tone guidelines, serving as the primary authority on brand communication standards
  • Translate leadership’s strategic messaging into clear, compelling language suitable for diverse audiences and channels
  • Centralize and oversee the copy function, including managing external agency relationships and defining quality assurance processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—Product, Marketing, Creative, and Social—to ensure unified messaging across all touchpoints
  • Shape narrative frameworks and storytelling strategies that resonate with members and potential users
  • Provide guidance and feedback to external partners to maintain high standards of copy quality and brand consistency
  • Stay informed on industry trends and continually refine the brand voice to stay relevant and engaging

Benefits

  • Competitive cash compensation and equity options
  • Comprehensive health benefits package
  • Flexible time off policy along with 12 paid holidays annually
  • Annual travel stipend of $4,000 to offset travel-related costs
  • Remote-first and flexible work environment with opportunities to work from anywhere
  • Regular team and company offsites to foster collaboration and team bonding
  • Access to 21 credits per year to stay in Kindred homes around the world
  • Participation in a vibrant, inclusive, and high-performing team culture
  • Opportunities for professional growth and continuous development

Equal Opportunity

Kindred is committed to fostering an inclusive environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic under applicable laws. We consider all qualified applicants for employment without regard to any protected status and are dedicated to creating a diverse and equitable workplace where everyone can thrive.
