About the Role

A farmer-led watchdog organization that investigates corporate power in food and agriculture is hiring a Digital Communications Coordinator to turn research, advocacy, media work, and storytelling into engaging digital content. Through research, public education, storytelling, and policy work, the organization makes problems in food and agriculture markets visible, holds corporations and government accountable, and fights for fairer food and farm policies.

This is a hands-on role focused on social media, short-form video, and graphic design. Working within priorities set by the communications team, the coordinator develops creative ways to promote reports, blogs, campaigns, media appearances, and rapid-response work across digital platforms. The ideal candidate is a strong content creator who can take complex food and agriculture issues and make them clear, visual, and engaging.

What the Role Covers

Social Media and Digital Content

  • Developing platform-specific social content plans for reports, research, blogs, campaigns, policy work, media appearances, events, and announcements
  • Turning longer-form content into engaging social-first formats including videos, carousels, graphics, explainers, quote cards, and multi-post series
  • Writing clear, compelling social copy, captions, hooks, headlines, and calls to action
  • Creating and maintaining the social media content calendar in coordination with the communications team
  • Scheduling and publishing content across platforms, adapting for different audiences
  • Monitoring breaking news, food and agriculture developments, and relevant online conversations to develop timely content
  • Brainstorming new formats and creative approaches for explaining complex issues

Video Production and Storytelling

  • Making short-form video a central component of digital communications
  • Developing concepts, hooks, scripts, and storyboards for explainers, rapid-response videos, interviews, staff commentary, farmer stories, and promotional content
  • Filming, editing, captioning, packaging, and publishing high-quality social video
  • Appearing on camera when appropriate
  • Working with staff and partners to develop scripts and support on-camera preparation
  • Repurposing television appearances, interviews, webinars, events, speeches, and podcasts into engaging social video clips

Graphic Design and Visual Communications

  • Producing routine graphic design and visual content including social media graphics, carousels, quote cards, charts, infographics, data visualizations, and promotional assets
  • Translating research findings, statistics, and complex policy information into clear visual content for general audiences
  • Designing organizational materials such as fact sheets, one-pagers, handouts, presentation graphics, and email graphics
  • Creating and maintaining reusable templates and ensuring brand consistency

Engagement, Analytics, and Digital Operations

  • Monitoring social channels, comments, mentions, messages, and audience engagement
  • Identifying opportunities to engage with farmers, journalists, partner organizations, and advocates
  • Monitoring social media performance and preparing regular reports with tactical recommendations
  • Testing new digital formats and tools; applying lessons from performance data
  • Maintaining organized digital assets and ensuring published content meets standards for accuracy, formatting, branding, and accessibility

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in social media, digital communications, content creation, graphic design, video production, or a related field (nonprofit, advocacy, journalism, campaigns, agencies, brands, or personal content creation all count)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative social content from longer-form source material such as reports, articles, research, or policy information
  • Strong graphic design skills with experience creating polished digital and social media assets
  • Demonstrated experience producing short-form video from concept through final edit
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills with ability to explain complicated subjects in clear, accessible language
  • Comfort appearing on camera and/or directing and producing others on camera
  • Proficiency with graphic design and video-editing tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, CapCut, Premiere Pro, or comparable platforms
  • Strong understanding of major social platforms and how content formats and audiences differ among them
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately when responding to breaking developments
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple content pieces and deadlines simultaneously
  • Interest in food, agriculture, corporate power, competition, or public policy issues
