Editor / Writer (Volunteer)

Thought Digest Media Group is an independent news and media business headquartered in Hobart, Tasmania. We produce some of the world’s most important social, political, and economic journalism. With a strong focus on Australia, we aim to expand our platform and offer audiences access to an alternative, independent news source.

1) Writer

The Writer will be responsible for creating content for various platforms, conducting research, writing, basic proofreading Australian Political, Economic or Social news stories. The Writer will collaborate with the content team to ensure alignment with our editorial voice and standards with our editors.

Qualifications

• Writing and Editing skills
• Experience in developing content strategies and conducting research
• Proofreading and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
• Familiarity with digital marketing is a plus
• Experience with content management systems is beneficial
• Ability to adapt tone and style to various audiences
• Previous experience in content creation or related fields is favorable

2) Content Editor/Editor

Content Editors will be responsible for creating and editing content for various platforms, developing content strategies, conducting research/fact checking, applying written content to social media designs and ensuring we hold to our editorial standards.

Qualifications

• Writing and Editing skills
• Experience in developing content strategies and conducting research
• Proofreading and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
• Familiarity with digital marketing is a plus
• Experience with content management systems is beneficial, but not required
• Ability to adapt tone and style to various audiences
• Previous experience in content creation or related fields is favorable
• Package stories using pre-designed social media templates across Instagram, X, Facebook, and LinkedIn (4:5 aspect ratio).
• Maintain editorial consistency and visual cohesion across all platforms
• Enforce brand tone: direct, factual, and no-spin

Requirements

• This role is open only to applicants based in Australia
• Strong performance in English studies:
• Minimum Year 10 English grade of A or B, or
• >70% final score in Year 11/12 internal English assessments
• An interest in Australian journalism and collaborating together to great something great
