What we believe
Good research should be free.
That is not a marketing line, it is how we operate. We commission and run original research, and we put it into the world for anyone to use. Journalists, analysts, the public. Great research is the core of the business, not a lead magnet attached to it.
Our clients stand behind that research. Their name is on it because they paid for the work and they believe in it, and that is a more durable position than any campaign message. The research reaches people through media, and increasingly through social.
That is the whole model. Fund good research, publish it properly, let it travel.
The role
You need media and PR skills first. You will know how newsrooms work, who covers what, and how a story actually gets commissioned. That is the baseline.
But the job is not the job as it was five years ago. Where research travels, and how, is changing quickly. Social carries more of it every quarter, and the audiences that matter are not only reading mastheads. You should find that interesting rather than unsettling.
What we need is someone who drives output.
Our research is already excellent. What it needs is a home. Every dataset we produce should end up somewhere it will be read, cited and used, and right now we produce more good work than we place.
That gap is the role.
What you would dp
Own client accounts. You are the person they talk to, and the person who understands their position well enough to know which research matters to them.
Place the work. Media distribution and the relationships behind it, built on knowing which journalists genuinely care about a given number.
Extend it into social. Increasingly this is where research finds its second and third life, and we want someone with a view on how to do it well.
Traffic manage the team's output. Researchers, analysts and writers all moving at once. You sequence the work and keep it moving.
Work with the research team on what the data is actually saying. You do not need to run the analysis, but you should be able to look at a dataset and see what is publishable in it.
Handle timing. Some work is planned months out. Some is a response to something that happened this morning. Both need to be done properly.
Who you are
You have run accounts and placed stories that mattered.
You are organised in a way that holds up under pressure.
You care about the quality of what goes out. Not the volume of it.
You are curious about where media is heading rather than defensive about it.
The platform
We have built our own end to end platform, and you would use it daily. It runs the whole chain in one place: research through production, distribution and monitoring, to analytics and client reporting.
We build it for the people using it, so we want to hear what is slow and what is missing.
Full time, WFH
Full time, WFH with occasional office-time in North Sydney. Small team, so the role has room to grow into whatever you make of it.
