Job Description The Startup Growth Lead at Mechanism will be responsible for guiding a cross-functional team through the initial stages of launching new ventures. As the Lead, you will leverage your entrepreneurial experience and growth expertise to test and scale new business ideas, aiming to bring them to sustained positive unit economics. You will partner with the current Startup Growth Leads and the Mechanism team to identify potential new company ideas, leveraging our robust database of companies, third-party data, and experience so that we focus our efforts on testing ideas in which we have a high level of confidence. You will also work closely with Mechanism Leadership to identify the right long-term CEO for each company, and successfully transition ownership to them. This role demands a hands-on leader with a strong commercial mindset and a focus on profitability. You will work closely with growth experts, designers, engineers, and operations specialists to validate new business opportunities and guide them toward scalable models. Your ability to move quickly without sacrificing quality and prioritize effectively will be critical to your success. As a Startup Growth Lead, you will collaborate with Mechanism's leadership team and automation engineers to refine our company-building processes from ideation to hand-off by leveraging AI and other automation technologies. This will contribute to continuous improvement so that we can continue to launch companies at an accelerated rate. Key ResponsibilitiesWhat You’ll Bring
- Entrepreneurial Background: A proven track record as a founder, co-founder, or early-stage team member of one or more growth-led companies.
- Growth Experience: 5+ years of strategic and operational experience in Growth Marketing, focusing on launching and scaling early-stage companies. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in performance marketing on Google Ads and Meta Ads and CRO experience.
- Operational Excellence: Demonstrate speed and quality in execution, effectively handle ambiguity, and approach problems with a test-and-learn mindset. You think in terms of hours and days rather than days and weeks. You must self-report progress regularly and ensure that speed does not compromise quality.
- Strong Commercial Mindset: A clear understanding of the importance of profitability metrics as key performance indicators (KPIs). You recognize that the primary goal is to drive business profit, and these metrics are essential for measuring the success of our efforts.
- Resourcefulness and Problem-Solving: Relentless resourcefulness, data-driven prioritization, decisive decision-making, and the ability to simplify complex problems.
- Systems Mindset: Strong systems thinking with a first principles approach. The ideal candidate is proficient in leveraging technology and automation to streamline operations and enhance team efficiency across the portfolio.
- Communication: You must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be highly responsive. You are comfortable collaborating with people from all walks of life and geographies.
- Attention to Detail and Analytical Skills: Strong atteCROntion to detail and a data-driven approach are required. You are highly analytical and excel at making data-driven decisions that align with long-term business objectives, ensuring your work consistently supports the company’s profitability and success.
- Proactive Continuous Improvement: Continuous self-improvement and being intellectually honest and coachable are essential.
- Technical Proficiency: Mastery of Google Workspace products, Google Analytics 4, Google Ads, Meta Ads, and comfortable leveraging AI for Growth and operational problems. Additionally, you should be proficient with Klaviyo (or other ESP), Shopify, Webflow, and a third-party A/B testing tool.
Skills, Knowledge And ExpertiseWhat You'll Do
- Quickly learn and leverage Mechanism’s operating model and first principles:
- Undergo a comprehensive onboarding process to understand our sophisticated operating model, frameworks, and tools. This includes topics such as prioritization and building growth models, as well as learning how to use our internal quiz-building engine.
- Complete Mechanism’s Growth Bootcamp.
- Identify company ideas that have Mechanism model fit:
- Develop a deep understanding of the Mechanism model.
- Leverage your understanding of the Mechanism model to identify and evaluate potential business ideas that align with the criteria.
- Feasibility test company ideas to determine viability.
- Launch companies and bring them sustained positive unit economics:
- Collaborate with the Mechansim team to assemble a small, cross-functional team with the right skillsets to launch the company (e.g., engineering, design, operations).
- Lead the team in building the company until the company reaches sustained positive unit economics. This includes managing the team and any freelancers you engage with. You will also own core growth functions for the company, such as paid media, CRO, and retention.
- Help recruit the right long-term CEOs for the companies:
- Work with Mechanism’s recruiting team to find the right long-term CEOs for the companies by leveraging your growth expertise.
- Onboard the right long-term CEO and successfully hand off the company to them, enabling them to build on the foundation you’ve established.
- Own your accountability through frequent updates:
- Provide transparency into your work and use daily updates to drive progress toward your goals (progress, learnings, and challenges).
- Build systems to uplevel the process for future launches:
- Continuously improve the Mechanism model by developing and refining frameworks, playbooks, and best practices.
- Implement tools and systems to enhance our capabilities to streamline company launches by leveraging AI and other technologies.
