Virginia Hyland, the Australian boss of Havas Media, has left the company after five years, citing a breach of workplace rights. This development was confirmed by Havas Media Network in a statement to Mumbrella, indicating efforts towards an amicable resolution.
Hyland, alongside her legal team from Sasphire Legal, has filed a Breach of General Protections claim against the company in the Federal Court. Such claims typically involve allegations of adverse actions by employers, including dismissal or unfair treatment.
While the specifics of the dispute remain under wraps, reports suggest tensions between Hyland and Havas Media’s global management may have played a role. The claim is currently being settled out of court.
Since her departure, the media group has been under the interim leadership of James Wright, group CEO of Havas Creative Network ANZ. Havas Media is now on the lookout for Hyland's successor.
Hyland's journey with Havas began in 2020 when her independent media agency, Hyland Media, was acquired by the holdco. She quickly rose to become CEO of Havas Media, steering the company through significant acquisitions, including Melbourne-based indie Hotglue.
Beyond her corporate role, Hyland serves as the deputy chair of the Media Federation of Australia, highlighting her influence in the industry.
