Jordan King, Seven's national digital sales director, has left the business, marking a significant shift in the company's digital advertising leadership. His departure comes as Seven West Media undergoes a major restructuring, with reports indicating that between 200 and 300 roles have been eliminated across the organization.
King joined Seven from rival Nine Entertainment in November 2024, bringing over seven years of experience in senior digital sales roles, including director of programmatic and digital sales. At Seven, he was responsible for all digital advertising sales, working alongside Katie Finney, who leads TV and streaming ad sales. Finney has been with Seven for nearly 25 years and stepped into her current role just two months ago.
The restructuring is part of a broader "resetting" of the company's cost base, as explained by Rohan Lund, CEO of Southern Cross Media Group (Seven's parent after its acquisition by Southern Cross Austereo). In an interview with Mumbrella, Lund acknowledged the difficulty of such changes, noting that "there's a natural resetting of your cost base, and responding to cyclical conditions."
When King joined Seven, he expressed enthusiasm about the company's direction: "I'm tremendously excited to be joining Seven as it continues to transition and evolve into a media business of the future. Seven is bolstering its impressive BVOD footprint and expanding its live streaming credentials with the introduction of the cricket and AFL digital rights."
It remains unclear whether King's role will be replaced. A spokesperson for Southern Cross Media Group declined to comment, citing privacy policies.
This leadership change highlights the ongoing challenges and transformations in the Australian media landscape, particularly in digital sales and streaming. As Seven navigates this transition, the industry will be watching closely to see how it adapts to the evolving market and whether it can maintain its competitive edge in digital advertising.
