Major Shakeup at TikTok: Key Executives Departing in Australia and New Zealand

TikTok's Leadership Changes in ANZ
The social media giant TikTok is experiencing significant leadership changes in Australia and New Zealand, as Brett Armstrong, the General Manager, and Denny Handlin, the Marketing Lead, are set to exit the company. This news comes from multiple sources familiar with the situation.
Brett Armstrong joined TikTok five years ago as one of the first senior hires, focusing on expanding the company's presence in Australia. His initial role involved overseeing global business solutions, which encompassed advertising, brand partnerships, client solutions, and sales operations.
After the departure of Lee Hunter, the former GM of ANZ, Armstrong became the highest-ranking leader in the region, managing an app that serves 8.5 million Australians daily. Prior to TikTok, he held significant positions at Google as the New Zealand country manager and head of media agencies in the ANZ area.
Although TikTok declined to comment on individual staff changes, it was noted that businesses working with the platform were informed of Armstrong's exit.
Alongside Armstrong, Denny Handlin, the ANZ head of global business marketing, is also leaving. He will be succeeded by Sushmitha âSushieâ Ghatty, who was previously leading TikTok's marketing strategy and operations. Handlin was one of the early members of TikTok Australia, having transitioned from Facebook, and he made significant strides within the company, moving from creative strategist to head of global business marketing.
The changes come amid ongoing uncertainty at TikTok, particularly following the introduction of a US law that could force the Chinese-owned company to separate its US operations, a situation that has been in flux since the Biden administration.
