Groq's New CMO: Chelsey Susin Kantor's Vision for AI Marketing Revolution

AI Chip Startup Groq Appoints New CMO

AI chip startup Groq has recently welcomed Chelsey Susin Kantor as its new chief marketing officer (CMO). With a background that merges engineering, science, and marketing, Kantor brings a wealth of experience to her new role.

Kantor's career includes significant positions at Meta and Google, and she co-founded Brand.AI, an AI-powered operating system, in 2023. Her goal at Groq is to elevate the company's presence in the market, especially following a $1.5 billion commitment from Saudi Arabia to bolster its expansion.

“As CMO, it’s my responsibility to tell the Groq story,” Kantor stated, emphasizing her role in overseeing the platform’s marketing strategy, which encompasses communications, creative, media, product marketing, and branding. She aims to make “Powered by Groq” a well-recognized signal in the industry.

In August, Groq achieved a $2.8 billion valuation after raising $640 million in a funding round led by major investors like BlackRock and Samsung Catalyst Fund. Kantor credits her time at Google and Facebook for giving her the tools necessary to build a brand at scale and to collaborate effectively with engineers.

Kantor's Insights on AI Inference

Kantor clarified that Groq specializes in AI inference, which is distinct from AI training processes managed by companies like Nvidia. Groq’s focus is on creating high-speed language processing units (LPUs) designed for inference, making powerful models more accessible.

“The future of AI isn’t about training ever-larger models. It’s about making powerful, nimble models accessible and easy to implement,” she remarked.

Kantor also highlighted the importance of privacy and human agency in AI, stating Groq's commitment to providing low-cost computing access to as many people as possible.

Looking forward, Kantor assures that Groq will prioritize supporting AI developers and anticipates launching unexpected partnerships that demonstrate the potential of their inference technology.
