Google has officially launched its suite of AI-powered advertising tools in India, marking a significant milestone for digital marketers in the region. This move comes shortly after the Indian government repealed the 6% levy on digital advertisements, a decision that has made the market more appealing to global tech giants.
The End of the 'Google Tax'
In March, the Indian government scrapped the so-called "Google tax," which was initially criticized by the United States Trade Representative as "discriminatory and unreasonable." This repeal is expected to reduce costs for tech companies like Google, Meta, and Amazon, fostering a more competitive digital advertising landscape.
AI-Powered Tools for Indian Marketers
At the local version of its Marketing Live event, Google introduced several innovative tools designed to enhance digital marketing efforts:
- Generated for You: Available within Product Studio, this tool uses AI to identify content opportunities and pre-generates images and videos for merchants.
- Smart Bidding Exploration: An opt-in feature for search campaigns that leverages AI to discover new, qualified leads.
- Agentic Capabilities in Google Ads and Analytics: These tools learn from advertising inputs to streamline campaign performance.

Enhanced Search Campaigns and Shoppable Ads
Google also unveiled AI Max for Search Campaigns, which improves ad performance by analyzing landing pages and existing ads. Early adopters like Cashify reported a 15% increase in conversions and a 12% reduction in customer acquisition costs.
Additionally, ads will start appearing on AI Overviews in India later this year, and YouTube's shoppable connected TV ads are now available, further expanding Google's advertising ecosystem.

India's Growing Digital Ad Market
India's digital advertising market is booming, with projections indicating a 20% year-over-year growth, reaching nearly $7 billion by the end of 2025. Google's introduction of these tools underscores the country's importance as a key market for digital innovation.
Localization Efforts: Google has ensured that new features like AI Max for Search Campaigns and Smart Bidding Exploration support Hindi, catering to the local audience. State-level urban and rural audience filters have also been introduced for more precise targeting.
