A New Contender in the Marketing World
A former WPP executive is setting his sights on disrupting the advertising giant with the launch of a new marketing agency, Studio.One. Ajaz Ahmed, who was the founding chief executive of WPP’s AKQA, announced his departure last autumn amidst tensions with the group's CEO, Mark Read. Following his exit, several senior executives also left WPP.
Ahmed expressed concerns about the erosion of AKQA’s autonomy within WPP, which Read has been working to simplify in recent years. He felt that AKQA was sidelined in favor of other divisions, leading to missed business opportunities.
Studio.One: A Direct Rival
With the launch of Studio. One, scheduled for Thursday, Ahmed aims to create a direct rival to the slow, bureaucratic large agencies that often have multiple layers of decision-making. In his words, Studio. One will challenge the status quo of traditional agencies that have become under-performing.
Ahmed’s vision is to build a more agile and responsive agency that can meet the needs of clients without the bureaucratic overhead.
