Disney's Strategic Shift in 'Tron: Ares' Promotion
With Tron: Ares set to hit theaters in October, Disney has kicked off its marketing campaign, but notably without Jared Leto in the spotlight. The actor's absence from the Empire magazine covers and promotional materials has sparked discussions, especially in light of recent allegations against him.
The Missing Star
The Empire magazine features two covers for Tron: Ares, both devoid of Leto's likeness. Additionally, the released promo images and the accompanying article make no mention of the actor. This move comes after Leto was part of the initial promotion at CinemaCon, before the allegations surfaced.
The Allegations
A recent report has brought to light accusations from nine women against Jared Leto, alleging sexual misconduct over the past two decades. Some claims involve underage girls, including explicit phone calls and in-person encounters. Leto's representatives have denied all allegations, labeling some as "demonstrably false."
What's Next for 'Tron: Ares'?
Disney has announced that Tron: Ares will be featured at Comic-Con, but it remains uncertain whether Leto will attend. The film follows Ares, a highly sophisticated Program, on a mission from the digital world to the real world, marking humanity's first encounter with A.I. beings.
Starring alongside Leto are Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson. Directed by Joaquim Rønning, Tron: Ares is scheduled for release on October 10, 2025, exclusively in theaters.
