Creative Powerhouse Andy Flemming Bids Farewell to 72&Sunny: What's Next?

Andy Flemming's Departure from 72&Sunny

One of Australia’s most accomplished creatives, Andy Flemming, has officially left 72&Sunny as Wesley Hawes prepares to step into the chief creative role.

Flemming, who previously held the position of group creative director at M&C Saatchi, spent three years at 72&Sunny. In a heartfelt LinkedIn post, he expressed:

“All good things come to an end. I’ve adored 72andSunny, and its unique, enthusiastic creative environment has seen my great friends Genevieve Hoey and Luke Martin go on to bigger (and truly gigantic) things.”

He acknowledged the dramatic changes that come with restructures, stating, “I adore the agency, but as a free agent now I’m now around to nail all the stuff I’m relatively well-known for being able to nail well.”

Flemming took the time to thank leaders Ross Berthinussen and Laura Popa “for the ride,” as well as creative director Kia Heinnen, “who fought in the trenches with me.”

In a statement to B&T, Berthinussen thanked Flemming for his creativity and passion during his tenure, wishing him the best for the future and expressing excitement for Wez Hawes joining as chief creative officer in January.

Flemming's Impressive Career

Flemming is widely recognized as one of the sharpest writers in the industry. Over his 15-year career at M&C Saatchi, he created notable campaigns such as:

  • ‘Ricky Gervais’ and ‘Idris Elba’ for Optus
  • ‘Can Kids’ for Commonwealth Bank
  • ‘Matesong’ for Tourism Australia

Together with founding creative director Tom McFarlane, he played a pivotal role in building the CommBank’s ‘Can’ brand. His portfolio also includes poetry for Toni Collette, award-winning work for Google, and collaborations with clients like Steggles, TAB, and Woolworths.
