Contract SEO Strategist (Team Support Focus)
As a Contract SEO Strategist, you will serve as an extension of our core SEO team, providing strategic coverage, execution support, and senior-level thinking across a portfolio of client accounts. This role exists to support our people, help move work forward during high-volume periods, and bring experienced perspective into complex SEO challenges.
You will work closely with internal strategists, directors, and specialists to translate client needs into actionable SEO plans, execute against approved strategies, and ensure momentum is maintained across accounts. Success in this role is measured by how effectively you enable the team, improve delivery quality, and help clients see real business impact from SEO.
This is a hands-on, collaborative contract role ideal for someone who is comfortable stepping into existing workflows, supporting ongoing engagements, and bringing clarity and structure to complex SEO initiatives.
Core Responsibilities (Support-Oriented)
- Support internal SEO leads by translating client conversations, business goals, and ad hoc requests into clear, executable SEO roadmaps aligned with best practices.
- Help absorb and execute workload during peak periods, team transitions, or complex initiatives, ensuring continuity and quality of delivery.
- Execute and support SEO strategy implementation across on-page, off-page, and technical workstreams.
- Leverage SEO tools such as Ahrefs, SEMrush, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, and Looker Studio, including advanced capabilities like custom extractions or API-driven insights when needed.
- Analyze SEO performance in GA4, GSC, and Looker Studio to surface insights related to traffic, rankings, conversions, and engagement, and support reporting, readouts, and renewal materials.
- Break down larger SEO initiatives into actionable next steps that internal teams can execute efficiently.
- Participate in client communications as needed, including supporting strategy presentations, clarifying recommendations, and helping manage expectations alongside internal account leads.
- Collaborate with internal teams across SEO, content, analytics, and development to implement approved strategies and troubleshoot issues.
- Bring POVs on emerging SEO trends, testing opportunities, and evolving best practices to help strengthen internal SEO thinking and execution.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience supporting or leading multi-year SEO engagements from strategy through execution.
- Proven ability to work on large, complex websites, including sites with 100K+ pages.
- Strong foundational and advanced understanding of SEO, including technical, on-page, and off-page strategy.
- Ability to extract meaningful insights from data and connect SEO performance to broader business outcomes.
- Hands-on proficiency with Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, GA4, Looker Studio, Ahrefs, and SEMrush.
- Working knowledge of technical SEO concepts and web development language, including crawling, indexing, rendering, JavaScript, and site architecture.
- Experience supporting both e-commerce and lead generation clients.
- Comfortable presenting insights and recommendations to internal stakeholders and client teams when needed.
- Familiarity with modern SEO developments including E-E-A-T, AI-driven search experiences, Helpful Content updates, and evolving SERP features.
- Ability to create custom, results-driven SEO roadmaps aligned to client OKRs and primary KPIs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially when explaining SEO concepts to non-SEO audiences.
- Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook skills.
- Adaptable, collaborative, and comfortable stepping into partially defined situations to help teams move faster.
Engagement Details
Hourly Range: $35 to $45
