About Show of Hands:
Show of Hands is a new independent music and arts festival coming to Bruton on the second May Bank Holiday weekend in 2026. It is all about jazz, performance, families, hot air ballooning, and the power of individual choice. Everyone who attends, including the audience, artists, and crew, gets a vote on how the festival’s future takes shape. The more they put in, the more their voice carries weight.
The festival explores the concept of radical governance. What if the biggest decisions were left in the hands of the community? What could possibly go wrong?
The Role
We’re looking for a Freelance Marketing Manager who will lead all marketing, communication, and promotional efforts for the festival, ensuring successful pre-event campaigns, seamless onsite execution, and insightful post-event reporting. The role will involve strategising, implementing, and managing multi-channel marketing initiatives to drive ticket sales, engage the target audience, and establish a strong brand presence.
Role & Responsibilities:Pre-Festival
- Own overall ticket sales performance and pacing against targets
- Develop and oversee the festival’s ticketing strategy, including on-sale moments, pricing phases, and complementary ticket offers
- Set strategic direction for all marketing and content activity
- Create, maintain, and update the festival website with accurate, engaging content
- Establish and oversee social media channels (Facebook, Instagram), focusing on organic growth and community engagement
- Set direction and priorities for digital advertising, working closely with the festival’s paid advertising specialist to deliver against ticket goals
- Build and manage the festival email database, delivering an email campaign at key moments throughout the year
- Define and maintain brand guidelines across all external communications
- Write copy for the website, email, and socials, ensuring that where partners have written on our behalf it fits our brand TOV
- Act as the strategic lead and internal point of contact for the festival’s PR agency, providing clear briefs, approvals, and campaign direction
- Lead and project-manage external designers, photographers, videographers, and content partners, providing clear briefs and feedback
- Monitor performance using Google Analytics and other tools, proactively identifying risks to ticket sales and proposing corrective action
- Manage and track the marketing budget
- Document marketing processes and workflows for future festival editions
During the Festival:
- Act as the central marketing and communications lead onsite
- Oversee PR activity in collaboration with the festival’s PR agency
- Manage live audience communications across social channels
- Coordinate photographers and videographers to ensure key moments are captured for future campaigns
- Maintain oversight of live digital content and asset management
Post-Festival:
- Produce a detailed marketing debrief covering ticket performance, audience engagement, and campaign effectiveness
- Attend an in-person debrief to present findings and recommendations
- Oversee the editing and delivery of a post-event sizzle reel to support future ticket on-sales
- Document learnings and refine marketing processes for future festival editions
What we're looking for:
- Proven experience leading marketing for festivals, live events, or cultural projects
- Experience owning ticket sales performance and being accountable for results
- Strong strategic understanding of audience growth, conversion, and campaign pacing
- Confident directing paid media specialists, PR agencies, and creative partners
- Excellent copy sensibility and brand judgement
- Comfortable working independently in a remote, freelance role
- Calm, organised, and decisive during live event periods
