Product Marketing Lead
Job Description
Posted on: January 27, 2026
About Us Shorthand exists to empower creative teams to produce and publish beautiful, transformative content radically faster. We’ve begun our journey by creating an easy-to-use platform for one of the most creatively and technically demanding use cases on the web — immersive feature stories — and we’re proud to count many of the world’s best known and most discerning publishers, brands, not-for-profits, and universities as loyal customers. Shorthand is a growing, investor-backed company with customers on every continent (except Antarctica!), and there’s never been a more exciting time to join our band of geeks with art and heart. We’re looking for a Product Marketing Lead to join our team in Australia or New Zealand. The role comes with a high level of responsibility and autonomy. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an ambitious but down-to-earth team that is making an outsized positive impact in the digital publishing space. What you’ll be doing Our Product Marketing Lead is a big part of the Shorthand magic. The purpose of this role is to ensure our product is positioned and communicated in a way that makes Shorthand easy to understand, easy to sell, and clearly differentiated — grounded in real customer outcomes and buyer needs. You’ll know you’ve been successful in this role when Sales is consistently equipped with the right stories and proof, our messaging holds up under scrutiny, and we see stronger conversion and shorter sales cycles. The successful candidate will join our Growth & Marketing team, and report to the VP of Growth & Marketing. In this role, you’ll help define how Shorthand is positioned, communicated, and brought to market. You’ll work closely with the CEO, VP of Growth & Marketing, VP of Sales, and Product leadership to ensure our messaging resonates with different buyers and is consistently applied across marketing, sales, and customer interactions. This is a senior, high-impact role with meaningful influence. You’ll be expected to contribute strategically, exercise strong judgement, and be hands-on where it matters most. Shorthand uses a product-led, sales-assisted go-to-market model. We rely on the product and customer-created content to generate interest, trials, and enterprise conversations, and monetise through a mix of self-serve, inside sales, and expansion-focused enterprise deals. While experience in a similar environment is helpful, the most important skill is the ability to translate a complex product into clear, compelling value for the right customers. In This Role, You Will
- Partner with the CEO, as well as Marketing, Sales and Product leaders, to shape Shorthand’s positioning, segmentation and core value propositions
- Develop a deep understanding of our buyers, users, market and competitive landscape, and codify that insight in practical, usable ways
- Help inform decisions around pricing, packaging and monetisation by bringing customer, market and competitive perspectives
- Define use cases, messaging frameworks and proof points that support both product-led and sales-assisted growth
- Work with customers to understand how they measure the value of Shorthand and compile this data into reusable assets
- Work closely with Sales to strengthen deal narratives, objection handling and sales confidence
- Produce sales enablement materials, including decks, one-pagers, objection-handling tools, and competitive positioning materials
- Lead product and feature launches end-to-end — from defining strategy and KPIs, to shaping the narrative, and coordinating go-to-market execution
- Ensure Shorthand’s messaging is applied consistently across website copy, sales materials, lifecycle communications and in-product touchpoints
- Collaborate with Product and Design on how features are framed, named and introduced to customers
- Oversee the creation and optimisation of product pages, ensuring messaging, positioning, and value propositions are accurately reflected and consistently applied
- Feed market insight and customer feedback back into product strategy and roadmap discussions
What we’re looking for The Successful Candidate Will Have
- A bachelor's degree in marketing, business, journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Extensive experience (ideally 8+ years) in product marketing or a closely related role, preferably in B2B SaaS or technology, with a proven track record of shaping positioning, messaging, and go-to-market strategy. Experience influencing pricing, packaging, or monetisation decisions is preferred but not essential.
- Demonstrated success in partnering with leadership and cross-functional teams (including Sales, Product, and Marketing) to influence product, pricing, and GTM decisions.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, particularly in translating complex product concepts into clear, buyer-focused messaging. Please include examples or links to relevant work where possible.
- Strong experience producing and/or overseeing sales enablement materials (decks, one-pagers, launch assets) that directly support revenue outcomes.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, prioritising impact while maintaining high standards.
- A passion for visual storytelling and communicating product value on the web.
You’ll be a great fit for our team if:
- You have exceptional attention to detail.
- You are collaborative and know how to work with others to meet shared goals.
- You are a proactive self-starter, who does not need to be told what to do and will be resourceful in order to find solutions to any challenge.
- You thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment, and possess a high level of intellectual curiosity.
- You are intrinsically motivated, deriving happiness from a job well done.
Why work for us We Offer
- Options for working your way: fully remote working, flexible hours and an allowance for a co-working space if you prefer.
- True autonomy, with the freedom to grow the role, and the chance to shape how our product is perceived, positioned, and sold.
- The opportunity to work in a growing SaaS company that is still small enough that you can make a real impact.
- An allowance for setting up your home office, a laptop, and any peripherals you need to do your job.
- An Employee Option Plan for all team members.
- A Health and Wellness fund to support your healthy lifestyle, as well as access to coaching and counselling services.
- Paid parental leave if you are growing your tribe.
Shorthand’s interview process We value direct communication here at Shorthand and want to be transparent on how we hire. Our process involves:
- An initial Zoom screen: You’ll have an informal Zoom meeting with the hiring manager to discuss your background, the role, and what led you to apply.
- A work task: We’ll ask you to complete a take-home task, similar to the work you’ll be doing in the role, using our software platform. This should take approximately 2-4 hours. This helps you to develop familiarity with our platform ahead of meeting with the hiring panel and helps us to verify that you’d be a great fit for the role.
- Interviews: You’ll have interviews with the hiring panel over Zoom. This means you’ll typically get to meet another 3 people from Shorthand, including our CEO.
- Final checks: The successful candidate will undergo a reference and criminal background check prior to us sending the final employment agreement.
Our workplace is 100% distributed and all interviews are conducted virtually unless otherwise advised. Please let us know of any reasonable accommodations you may need during the interview process. Applications close on 16 February. Please use PDF versions for all documents.
