Job Description

Risk and Compliance ManagerAbout Us
We’re not your ordinary financial services organisation, far from it. We’re a not-for-profit discretionary mutual, built for the member, by the member, and driven by purpose, not profit. Our small, passionate team came together because we’re fed up with the current financial system that has prioritised shareholder profits over people and we’re here to change that. We’re on a mission to reimagine financial services by creating ethical, inclusive products for communities that have been consistently overlooked, especially Islamic and ethical-driven communities seeking solutions that align with their values. This isn’t just a job. It’s a chance to be part of a movement, one that challenges the status quo and builds a fairer, more human approach to finance. As an early-stage not-for-profit what we offer is shared purpose, authentic collaboration, and the opportunity to shape something meaningful from the ground up. If you grow with us, we’ll grow with you.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Risk and Compliance Manager to join our small team and assist with the creation and implementation of Najmaa’s risk and compliance framework. This role is critical to embedding risk and compliance obligations into our day-to-day operations and product governance, while ensuring regulatory readiness across our personal lines product offering (starting with motor).
You will be responsible for assisting with designing policies, mapping regulatory obligations, and implementing them within a scalable risk and compliance system. You will report directly to Najmaa's Legal Counsel and Chief Risk Officer (CRO), supporting both assurance and operational execution across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with developing Najmaa’s compliance framework aligned to ASIC, APRA (best practice) and AFCA expectations and the Corporations Act.
- Design and implement key risk and compliance policies and procedures (including product governance, breach reporting, complaints handling, distribution oversight, and conflicts of interest).
- Map all regulatory obligations and embed them into a fit-for-purpose risk and compliance system to support oversight and reporting.
- Provide compliance oversight for all personal lines products (motor, home and contents, small business) from concept through to launch and monitoring.
- Ensure all disclosures, communications, and member outcomes align with regulatory standards and ethical principles.
- Monitor regulatory and industry changes and lead internal implementation of any new obligations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, legal, underwriting, claims, and technology teams.
- Report to Legal Counsel and the CRO on compliance risk exposures, emerging trends, incidents, and improvement opportunities.
- Support compliance training and build awareness across the wider team.
About You
- 3+ years of experience in compliance, legal, or risk roles in insurance, mutuals, or financial services.
- Proven experience designing compliance frameworks and policies, ideally within a start-up or early-stage environment.
- Familiarity with AFSL and financial services law
- Experience configuring or implementing a risk and compliance system (e.g., 6clicks, Protecht, LogicGate) is highly regarded.
- Strong attention to detail, combined with pragmatic judgment and the ability to apply regulation in a values-based setting
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including comfort working in a lean, high-autonomy environment.
- Purpose-driven, values-led, and excited to create real change in financial services.
What We Offer
- A fully remote and flexible role, we care about outcomes, not clock-ins.
- A genuine opportunity to leave a legacy, not just do a job.
- A chance to be part of a movement that’s changing financial services from the ground up.
- A collaborative and values-driven environment where your voice truly matters.
- As we are in the early stages of our journey, this opportunity includes a modest paid component and calls for a degree of voluntary contribution. That said, we’re deeply committed to growing together, and as we scale, your role and rewards will grow with us.
