We focus on high-standard workmanship, reliability and clear communication, and it’s been an exciting, successful but hectic first year with a constant flow of varied projects. Our goal is to be the go-to local name for everything from carpentry and joinery (bespoke furniture, skirting, kitchen units, media walls, wood paneling, doors & ironmongery, fire-rated compliance, fire batt & mastic) through to electrical work, patio/decking, assembly & wall mounting, general maintenance & repairs wall cracks/hole/paint etc.
Role Description
This is a freelance/contract Social Media Manager role, initially for 1–2 months, with strong potential to develop into a longer-term ongoing arrangement.
The priority for this first phase is to audit and organize a large backlog of photos and videos from past jobs into a clear, usable content library. You will then develop a practical game plan for the year ahead. I've actively tried to take a good amount of media, but now its become
You will help define and execute a simple but effective social media and content strategy, enabling GraySparks to build and maintain a strong online presence without the owner needing to be hands-on day to day.Key Responsibilities
- Auditing all existing media (photos, videos, before/afters, in-progress shots, testimonials) and organizing it into a structured, easy-to-use content system.
- Identifying usable media and flagging gaps where certain jobs or services have little or no content.
- Developing a clear social media strategy and posting plan based on media availability and business goals.
- Creating short-form video content (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts) and feed posts from existing footage, including appropriate hooks, captions, and simple branding.
- Advising on how to capture better content going forward (e.g., what to film, frequency, angles) so each new job adds value to the content bank.
- Scheduling and optimizing posts across platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn) and tracking basic performance metrics.
- Collaborating directly with the owner to align on the mission, standards, and tone of voice, ensuring the online presence is accurate.
What You'll Need
- Strong, demonstrable experience in social media and digital marketing, ideally with service-based or local/trades businesses.
- Proven ability to transform a chaotic or unorganized media library into a structured content system and strategy.
- Solid short-form video editing skills and confidence creating TikTok/Reels-style content from raw footage.
- A good understanding of content strategy, branding, and building trust and authority online.
- Clear, honest communication and the ability to work independently while remaining open to feedback and collaboration.
- A mindset focused on a potentially long-term, mutually profitable partnership.
Project Details
- Type: Freelance / Contract
- Duration: Initial 1–2 months (with potential to extend to an ongoing retainer)
- Location: Remote. Bonus points for familiarity with the UK trades/home services space.
- Hours: Flexible and output-focused. We will agree on targets for posts and videos per week, rather than strict working times.
