The Opportunity: Caraway is seeking a **Director/**Senior Director of eCommerce to lead and scale our digital ecosystem—driving innovation, optimizing every digital touchpoint, and building a seamless, high-performing shopping experience for our customers. This leadership role will oversee the full eCommerce funnel, from digital product management and UX design to content, development, and conversion optimization, all while deeply embedded in our Shopify Plus and headless architecture. Your mission: to build a best-in-class digital experience that enhances discovery, improves performance metrics (CVR, AOV, RPS), and supports scalable, sustainable growth across all product lines and lifecycle moments. You will manage and mentor a cross-functional team of product managers, UX/UI designers, content strategists, developers, and key contractors/agencies. You will be a key player in go-to-market execution—ensuring that new launches, promotions, and seasonal campaigns are flawlessly brought to life online. You'll drive prioritization, build business cases, and bring a clear, data-backed POV to executive decision-making. Who You Are: As the Director/Senior Director of eCommerce, you will be the strategic and operational force behind Caraway’s digital experience—owning our Shopify Plus and headless site architecture, leading a high-performing team, and driving measurable results across every digital touchpoint. With deep eCommerce expertise and a sharp eye for customer behavior, you’ll shape and execute a roadmap that improves conversion, lifts AOV, and fuels long-term growth. In this role, you’ll oversee site performance, digital merchandising, UX, content, and development—translating business goals into clear priorities and scalable solutions. You’re as comfortable building A/B testing plans as you are evaluating tradeoffs, presenting business cases to executives, or coaching a product manager through a roadmap sprint. You’ll thrive by blending strategic vision with hands-on execution, ensuring our digital experience meets the highest standard of performance and brand storytelling. Beyond your technical and analytical strengths, the ideal candidate is a collaborative leader and a proactive problem-solver. Responsibilities: Leadership, Team Management & Coaching

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team spanning digital product, UX/UI design, site content, development, and external partners
  • Create prioritization frameworks to balance resources against business goals, ensuring clarity and impact across initiatives
  • Foster a culture of ownership, experimentation, and continuous improvement
  • Support in resourcing and org planning including vendor and agency evaluations
  • P&L/budget management

eCommerce Leadership & Strategy

  • Own the end-to-end digital strategy and roadmap for Caraway’s eCommerce experience across Shopify Plus and headless architecture, ensuring alignment with growth, brand, and overall business goals
  • Define and execute a long-term vision for digital growth that aligns with company goals and customer needs
  • Act as a strategic thought leader and business partner, identifying opportunities, building business cases, and presenting tradeoffs clearly to exec stakeholders
  • Manage and optimize Shopify and headless commerce solutions, ensuring a seamless customer journey and scalable infrastructure through collaboration with the Tech Advisor and VP of Marketing & Digital

Digital Experience & Merchandising

  • Oversee the full site experience, including navigation, product discovery, PDPs, quizzes, cart, checkout, and post-purchase
  • Lead site merchandising, product catalog strategy, bundling, promotions, and digital storytelling to drive conversion and upsell
  • Translate product and brand strategies into elevated, conversion-driving moments across the site

Conversion Optimization & Performance

  • Own and continuously optimize KPIs including revenue per session (RPS), average order value (AOV), and conversion rate (CVR)
  • Develop and manage a robust A/B testing roadmap focused on UX, copy, layout, merchandising, and feature experimentation
  • Leverage UI/UX insights and analytics to balance performance with experience across mobile and desktop

Product & Development Ownership

  • Drive the digital product roadmap, including launch execution, platform improvements, and QA/release cycles
  • Act as the steward of our technical ecosystem, owning Shopify Plus, headless infrastructure, third-party app integrations, and custom development
  • Ensure peak development and technical performance through process ownership of sprint management, reducing bugs, increasing site speed and performance and team velocity
  • Continuously optimize Caraway’s eCommerce technology, including vendor relationships, contract negotiations, and app integrations
  • Oversee ongoing site reliability, performance, and ADA compliance in partnership with internal and external dev resources

Analytics & Reporting

  • Own and optimize RPS, AOV, CVR using data-driven insights as well as funnel metrics: Product View CVR, ATC CVR, and Conversion Funnels
  • Build and maintain analytics frameworks that provide visibility into performance and guide data-driven decisions
  • Partner with growth, finance, and brand to evaluate digital initiatives based on incremental lift and long-term impact

Collaboration & GTM Execution

  • Lead eCommerce execution for product launches, brand campaigns, and promotions—working cross-functionally to ensure seamless coordination
  • Partner with brand, growth, operations, creative, and finance to bring full-funnel moments to life and deliver performance results
  • Stay ahead of eCommerce trends, platform capabilities, and emerging tech to keep Caraway’s digital experience at the cutting edge

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • 8+ years of experience in eCommerce, digital product, or DTC operations
  • 5+ years leading high-impact digital product, engineering, and UX/UI design teams in a growth-stage environment
  • Deep Shopify Plus expertise, with hands-on experience managing custom themes, third-party apps, and headless setups
  • Fluent in digital merchandising, UX principles, and CRO best practices
  • Comfortable navigating product trade-offs and prioritizing work streams to balance short-term wins with long-term innovation
  • Analytical and highly proficient with performance data (Heap, Shopify Analytics, Looker/Omni, AB testing tools, etc.)
  • Strong cross-functional communicator who can translate technical opportunities into executive-ready business cases, leading teams to deliver tangible business impact
  • A self-starter and problem solver who thrives in fast-moving, entrepreneurial environments
  • Proven experience in project management

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $175,000 - $235,000 - Final compensation will depend on a variety of factors determining the base pay at offer, including but not limited to: skills, qualifications, experience. This range provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.
