Cantrip is a modern beverage brand redefining what it means to unwind. We craft hemp-derived THC and CBD drinks designed to deliver a light, sociable buzz—without alcohol and without hangovers. With the tastiest products in the THC category and no snake oil marketing, Cantrip is found in liquor stores, grocers, and bars across the U.S. We're building a category from scratch, and our brand is equal parts honest, bold, and fun.

The Role

We’re seeking a bold, strategic, and execution-driven Marketing Director to lead all facets of brand and growth marketing. This isn’t your typical CPG marketing job—we’re building a new product category with regulatory nuance, rapid market evolution, and a cultural stigma to rewrite. Your job is to make Cantrip not just a beverage, but a movement.

You’ll be central to the entire marketing ecosystem—from brand storytelling and channel strategy to consumer funnel performance and retail activation. Working witih our Creative Director and COO, you’ll be the connective tissue across internal teams (Sales, Ops, Product) and external agencies, aligning creative campaigns with business goals and regulatory compliance.

In this role, you must understand the complexities and challenges of beverage marketing. While the category is new, the format is not – this role is beverage first, and the star players are our taste and naturally extracted THC, but the game we are playing is still one of beverage. A strong knowledge of blocking and tackling in a similar role such as in alc-bev or in energy drinks will be a critical asset to this role; working knowledge of cannabis is a plus but can be taught by us.

We are looking for someone who understands that communicating their vision is just as important as executing it, as nothing gets done in a silo. Top tier communicators will thrive in this role. Experience and savvy can get you this job, but working in a novel category with a constantly evolving regulatory landscape will be different than anything you’ve done before – so be prepared to adapt what you’ve seen work elsewhere to an entirely new environment.

  • Elaborate on and further articulate the brand vision and how it is demonstrated across assets and channels
  • Work directly with the Creative Director for campaigns, product launches, events, and retail support
  • Be the last set of eyes to ensure consistency across packaging, web, social, email, OOH, and retail

Integrated Marketing Strategy

  • Develop and execute full-funnel marketing plans tailored to both DTC and B2B (wholesale/distributor/retail) objectives
  • Plan and oversee campaigns across digital, experiential, PR, influencer, and out-of-home
  • Manage promotional calendars for major launches, market expansions, and seasonal campaigns

Consumer Acquisition & Retention

  • Lead performance marketing, email/SMS, and organic content strategies
  • Optimize top-of-funnel traffic and conversion with a focus on education, trial, and advocacy
  • Design and deploy loyalty programs, product drops, and experiential activations

Trade & Field Marketing

  • Be the number one liaison with and cheerleader for the sales team
  • Develop sell-through toolkits and in-store POS for independent and chain retail
  • Coordinate field marketing and sampling programs with distributor and sales partners
  • Align campaigns with state-specific compliance and channel segmentation (dispensary vs. grocery vs. smoke shop)

Data & Budget Ownership

  • Define and track KPIs for awareness, engagement, conversion, and retention
  • Manage marketing budget, report on ROI, and prioritize spend across markets and channels
  • Translate market insights, consumer trends, and sales performance into actionable strategy

Who You Are

  • 6+ years of marketing experience, preferably in CPG, alcohol, cannabis, or wellness
  • You must be a self-starter. Hand holding will not be offered in this role.
  • Proven leadership in both brand marketing and performance/growth marketing
  • Adept at balancing creative storytelling with data-driven decision-making
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, ambiguous, startup environment
  • Deep understanding of consumer behavior, especially Gen Z and Millennial audiences
  • Excited about the potential of cannabis and passionate about building something from the ground up
  • Experience managing agencies, freelancers, and cross-functional teams
  • Bonus: familiarity with regulatory compliance in hemp, cannabis, or beverage categories
