This new role for an experienced communications professional who will work closely with colleagues in Australia and Europe to build ACCR’s profile and brand and deliver ACCR’s communications strategy, with an audience focus on institutional investors based in the UK and Europe, particularly in Norway.
Staff at ACCR are based across Australia and Europe so this role will need to be available to work regularly (at least 3 days/week) from 6am BST/GMT, with flexibility for hours at other times around this. Travel to Australia at least once for a year for a couple of weeks is also part of the role. Occasional travel within Europe may be possible by agreement.
You’ll love this job if:
- You enjoy using your excellent media and communications skills strategically to make an impact. You already are well connected in the UK and/or Norway.
- You understand the financial sector, its media entry points and how to communicate with it. You may have experience in an investment fund or similar entity; if not, you would be able to come up to speed quickly to engage with corporate/finance audiences.
- You would thrive in a dispersed, multidisciplinary, highly skilled and motivated team focused on making a difference in decarbonisation.
Responsibilities
The role will include the following types of tasks in relation to the UK and Norway, and at times more broadly in Europe:
- Work with the Strategic Communications Lead to build a consistent ACCR brand presence with mainstream media, investors and civil society, including building relationships with institutional investors in UK and Europe, for example, increase ACCR’s profile in investor publications; interface with investors and their communications departments
- Build and manage media relationships, responding to media requests, drafting media releases, aligning media with organisational messaging
- Collaborate with ACCR’s Australian-based media agency and colleagues to ensure non-duplicative media outreach and protection of relationships
- Work with other members of the ACCR Communications team, to create digital content for ACCR’s digital channels
- Proactively identify speaking opportunities and conferences in the UK and Europe, pitch ACCR spokespeople, and support in preparation for events
- Under the leadership of the Strategic Communications Lead, contribute to the development of UK/Europe communications strategies to support ACCR industry and financial sector workstreams
- Contribute to the development and execution of ACCR’s narrative strategies
Criteria
We’re looking for someone with these types of skills and experience:
- Substantial (7+ years’) experience in media and communications, including experience developing sophisticated communications strategies for impact
- Excellent writing skills for media releases and digital content
- Excellent interpersonal skills for building external relationships and collaborating within a multidisciplinary, international team and preparing staff for media work
- Ability to work nimbly and independently, while having good judgement as to when to bring others in on decision-making
- Experience with/in investment/stewardship/financial institutions would be a very strong advantage
- Climate experience would be a bonus
- A commitment to ACCR’s mission and values including demonstrating respect and genuinely valuing diversity.
- Flexibility to work overlapping hours with colleagues in Australia and travel occasionally.
- Comfort working in a remote virtual context – connected to colleagues elsewhere, possibly with some colleagues within the same region depending on location, but also able to work from home, and thus having an ability to operate fairly autonomously.
If you don’t meet every point above, please still apply if you can see your skills well used in this role.
