From Dreams to Reality
Since childhood, Fraser Wilson dreamed of starting his own company. But launching a sunscreen brand in Glasgow, known for its rainy weather? “There’s a lot of irony there for sure,” he laughs.
Introducing dussl
Fraser is the mastermind behind dussl, a new skincare line centered around the Daily Protection Moisturiser with SPF 50. His seven-product lineup emphasizes simplicity, with sun protection as the core of a good skincare regimen. As Fraser explains, without proper sun protection, no fancy formulas can prevent aging and skin damage.
Understanding UV Rays
“Obviously in Glasgow, it’s hardly ever sunny, but there are actually three different types of UV rays,” Fraser says. Even on cloudy days, UVA and UVB rays are present, leading to compounded exposure.
- UVB rays cause burns and skin damage.
- UVA rays contribute to aging and are present every day.
Education Through Great Products
Fraser aims to educate consumers on the importance of preventative skin care. He believes that the skincare market is flooded with hyper-feminine and overly clinical products, creating a gap for a gender-neutral brand with a masculine edge.
Simplifying Sunscreen
Fraser's goal was to create a sunscreen that doesn't feel heavy or unpleasant. Memories of thick, white sunscreen prompted him to simplify skincare, focusing on UV protection as the core of daily routines. The dussl product line is suitable for sensitive skin, vegan, cruelty-free, and free from parabens, sulfates, and silicone.
Aesthetic Appeal
The branding features Pantone shades of blue, green, and olive, giving the products a chic, top-shelf appeal. Fraser's choice of the name dussl was influenced by the idea of creating a unique brand name that resonates with the concept of simplified skincare for busy individuals.
Launch Success
Last month, dussl held a launch event at the designer lifestyle store HOOS on Great Western Road, selling out three product lines immediately. Fraser engaged with customers, explaining the necessity of SPF even in Glasgow, and received positive feedback.
Commitment to Skin Health
Fraser is dedicated to skin health and has partnered with skin cancer charities, donating 1% of all dussl revenue to Melanoma UK. “Skin health is part of our overall health and wellbeing,” he emphasizes.
