Breaking News Reporter (Volunteer)

Thought Digest Media Group is an independent news and media business headquartered in Hobart, Tasmania. We produce some of the world’s most important social, political, and economic journalism. With a strong focus on Australia, we aim to expand our platform and offer audiences access to an alternative, independent news source.

The Role

The Breaking News Reporter will be responsible for creating content for various platforms, conducting research, writing, basic proofreading Australian Political, Economic or Social news stories in a timely maner. They will collaborate with our editorial voice and standards with our editors.

Qualifications

• Writing and Editing skills
• Experience in developing content strategies and conducting research
• Proofreading and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
• Familiarity with digital marketing is a plus
• Experience with content management systems is beneficial
• Ability to adapt tone and style to various audiences
• Previous experience in content creation or related fields is favorable

Requirements

• This role is open only to applicants based in Australia
• Strong performance in English studies:
• Minimum Year 10 English grade of A or B, or
• >70% final score in Year 11/12 internal English assessments
• A proficient knowledge of Canva or another editing suite (editors only)
• An interest in Australian journalism and collaborating together to great something great
