Job Status: Contract (15-20 hours)

Compensation: $25-35/hr (based on experience)

This is a remote position but really looking for someone in the Buffalo, NY area who we can attend conferences and meetups together and grow with other local partner agencies.

Makarios Marketing is an SEO agency that helps e-commerce and local businesses grow through organic traffic. We’re known for turning skeptics into SEO believers by delivering real results that move the needle — whether that’s $200,000 in revenue growth or jumping from 3,000 to 20,000 monthly visitors.

We're looking for a SEO Strategist & Account Manager to join our remote team in a contract position (15-20 hours to start) and help with execution for our client accounts. You'll help the businesses you support — delivering strategic direction, implementation, and measurable results across technical, content, and off-page SEO.

Role Description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Own the SEO strategy for multiple e-commerce and local business clients
  • Build and manage white-hat backlink campaigns focused on relevance and authority
  • Conduct high-level keyword research to inform content and architecture decisions
  • Create and optimize product pages, collections, service pages, and blog posts
  • Build topical maps and internal linking structures for content silos
  • Implement on-page SEO best practices (metadata, headings, schema, etc.)
  • Provide SEO audits, reporting, and insights using tools like Ahrefs, Semrush, Screaming Frog
  • Communicate directly with clients via Zoom and Slack — including calls, updates, and reporting
  • Collaborate with copywriters, developers, and account managers to align SEO goals with broader marketing initiatives

We Will Rely On You To

  • Serve as the primary account manager for assigned clients
  • Maintain high-level SEO documentation and project management within ClickUp
  • Help improve and build out SOPs for SEO strategy and execution
  • Contribute to team discussions around improving our service offering

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • 2+ years of hands-on SEO experience (agency or in-house)
  • Proven success with both local SEO and e-commerce SEO (Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress)
  • Deep understanding of backlinks — how to acquire them and assess quality
  • Comfortable leading client calls and providing strategic updates
  • Strong content skills — from brief creation to optimization and internal linking
  • Familiar with tools like Ahrefs, Semrush, Surfer, Screaming Frog, LowFruits
  • Able to evaluate technical SEO (crawlability, indexation, schema, page speed, etc.)
  • Available during standard business hours: 9 AM–5 PM EST/CST

Bonus Skills

  • Familiarity with ClickUp or other project management tools
  • Light experience with HTML, CSS, or Shopify/Liquid
  • Understanding of CRO and how SEO impacts conversions
  • Experience using AI tools for content creation and analysis
