Texas Sues Kenvue Over Tylenol Marketing
Texas has filed a lawsuit against Kenvue, the manufacturer of Tylenol, alleging that the company engaged in deceptive marketing by promoting the drug as safe for use during pregnancy while concealing potential links to autism. The state's Attorney General, Ken Paxton, claims that Kenvue failed to disclose research suggesting a connection between prenatal and early-childhood use of acetaminophen—Tylenol's active ingredient—and autism.
Inconclusive Research and Medical Opinions
Studies on the link between acetaminophen and autism remain inconclusive, with many doctors, medical societies, and researchers asserting that acetaminophen is still the best option for managing fever and pain in pregnancy. They recommend that patients consult their healthcare providers before use.
Government Warnings and Actions
In September, President Trump and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. issued an official warning labeling acetaminophen as a potential cause of autism, relying on existing studies rather than new evidence. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plans to update acetaminophen labels and launch an awareness campaign regarding this possible association.
