Hays City Manager Toby Dougherty has announced the appointment of James Bell as the new Hays public relations manager, commencing on February 3. This role is pivotal in enhancing the city’s communication and outreach initiatives.
“Creating this position is part of the city of Hays’ effort to foster comprehensive and effective communication,” says Dougherty. James will leverage his valuable expertise to ensure the community stays well-informed about city initiatives, activities, and services.
James Bell brings a wealth of experience from both the private and nonprofit sectors, where he has successfully managed marketing campaigns, developed public relations strategies, and overseen media outreach. Upon accepting the position, he expressed his enthusiasm to collaborate with local leaders and residents.
“I am excited to work with the city of Hays to create stronger communication channels and improve overall understanding of city activities,” Bell stated. His goal is to empower residents to stay informed and involved in decisions shaping their community. He believes that when citizens feel connected to their local government, it fosters trust and leads to more productive conversations about serving everyone in Hays.
In his new role, Bell will be responsible for developing and managing the city’s communication strategies, which includes:
- Overseeing social media platforms
- Updating the city website with the latest information
- Coordinating traditional media outreach
